Heather's Surgery

Heather got a wound near the area where her baclofen pump was implanted several weeks ago, and it got infected, so she had to get it surgically removed this morning. Heather is obviously uncomfortable, and will have to be on strong antibiotics for a while, but is doing well. Just don't try to take those keys away from her.

Looks like she will be in the hospital until at least early next week.

Did she have the new pump removed or the infection removed?

Both, although the infection is difficult to remove completely. We are hoping it didn't spread to her spinal fluid, and isn't the resistant kind of staph, which is why she has to be in the hospital so long.

Initial tests this morning show the infection did not spread to her spinal fluid. We still don't know if it is the MSRA kind (the bad kind) of staph until the cultures grow a few more days.

Oops. Better link, although if you haven't heard about MSRA by now, you haven't been paying enough attention.

Oops, I mean MRSA, not MSRA. Where is my brain today?

Heather is so beautiful, even when she is not comfy! Our thoughts and prayers will be for her and you all, an extra amount. Love, Mom and Bill
