Discovering Email

Submitted by Marsie:

I was recently looking through a box of some old stuff and found a letter from Karl that he wrote while we were both in college. It's dated October 1993. I had to chuckle when I read this and thought it would be fun to share.
He wrote:
I have an account at the UNIX computer here and we have a direct connection down to ASU. If you're a student, it's usually free to get an account and then we could send e-mail to each other for the low, low price of nothing! It's faster than the post office, too! If we're logged on at the same time, then we can even talk just like we're on a telephone! Pretty cool, huh?...Believe me, it is very fun, I've even written to some people in Iowa...I'm sort of biased towards this stuff because I'm a computer science major.
Sorry, Karl I think I was too intimidated by the idea at the time! I think it was another few years before I got an email account!
And now it's just a part of every day life!
